Even as the 2026 NFL season draws closer, an off-field controversy has become a major talking point. In a shocking development, San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested in Ohio on multiple charges.

The San Francisco Standard’s Tim Kawakami believes the allegations will have major consequences for the team as a whole.
“Jed York not living in the Bay Area would be a major change from the way he’s run this team for almost 20 years,” he claimed, albeit with a possible avenue where he does make it back to the city.
“Maybe he’ll move back at some point. But for now, it’s a big difference. Add in repercussions from yesterday’s news… this is a very different ownership presence.”
It remains to be seen how that change affects the 49ers. But for the moment, their problems aren’t fully over just yet. After the charges, the league confirmed that it will be taking the matter under review under the personal conduct policy.
So far, there has been no announcement on what the punishment will be. But the ramifications are already starting to make their way to San Francisco, as head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that York wasn’t as involved as he’s previously been.
Even though he has been available, his absence has been hard to ignore. But given that he hasn’t been as much of a presence in training camp, the veteran coach believes the change shouldn’t be as severe by the time the season rolls around.
