The Golden State Warriors have undoubtedly had the type of free agency that has left some wondering why Steph Curry would even want to stick around. The Warriors have brought back players this summer who really have not moved the needle for them.
Golden State had primarily been bringing back familiar faces to the organization during free agency. However, earlier in the week, the Warriors finally agreed to a deal with Brandon Williams to end that streak.
“The Golden State Warriors are signing free agent guard Brandon Williams to a one-year, $2.6 million minimum contract, agents Derek Lafayette and Curtis Lawrence told ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday. Williams is the team's first outside acquisition in what has been an otherwise stable offseason, providing needed perimeter bench scoring and speed for a reserve unit that often lacked it last season," ESPN's Anthony Slater wrote.
On the same day, Golden State also agreed to terms with veteran Georges Niang.
“Free agent forward Georges Niang has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million deal with the Golden State Warriors, Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman of Priority Sports tell ESPN. Niang -- a career 40% 3-point shooter -- enters his 11th NBA season after missing 2025-26 due to injury," ESPN's Shams Charania wrote.
These were two solid moves for the Warriors, as Williams has NBA Finals experience while Niang has plenty of playoff experience. On Thursday, both deals were officially signed and finalized.
“The Warriors signed Georges Niang to a partially guaranteed deal and Brandon Williams to a non-guaranteed deal, sources say. Niang is partially guaranteed for $1.84M of his $3.88M salary. Williams can earn $1.4M if he makes the opening night roster and up to $2.63M total,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto posted.
Both players will be reliable options off the bench, which has been their role for most of their careers. Niang, in particular, should provide Golden State with another capable 3-point shooter alongside Steph Curry.
Williams and Niang have combined for $39 million in career contracts. Golden State has done well in the back half of free agency by adding two new faces to the organization, although the overall summer has still been disappointing.
