What's next for Alabama football DL after Jeremiah Beaman injury?

Weeks before the Alabama football defensive lineman's third season, an offseason where he rose up the ranks after missing 2025 with an ACL tear and was expected to play a significant role up front, Beaman tore his same ACL again ending his 2026 season.

"Those are hard," Wommack said after Alabama's fall camp practice Wednesday, Aug. 26. "Sometimes you just got to sit with somebody in some really hard stuff. He worked so hard to get himself ready to go and put himself in a really good position. Was taking strides in the right direction. And then to have this injury again, about the same time he had last year, it's a hard thing to go with."

For the Alabama defensive line, though, this is nothing new.

"Those guys know the drill," Wommack said. "That happens. You're going to sustain injuries on the defensive line. It's a very physical position. We typically carry more body on the roster. We carry more bodies into the game plan. ...Nobody likes to see a guy hurt, right, but they kind of operate in that next-man-up mentality, so our guys are ready to step in where they need to."

Beaman's injury will test Wommack on something he's been building all offseason.

Position versatility has been at the forefront on the defensive line, he said. Most interior guys can play both inside positions. Bandit linemen, like USC transfer Devan Thompkins, can also play inside at 3-technique.

Alabama has options to work with.

Mississippi State transfer Kedrick Bingley-Jones, Wommack said, has "that crafty old man to him," one who knows all the "tricks of the trade" and is a "really good football player."

Edric Hill, Wommack said, has "put a decent amount of weight on," standing in the 295-pound range with the ability to play both inside and outside, repping at bandit.

Steve Bolo Mboumoua also has the "strength, athleticism (and) physicality he can play the game with" and is taing "steps in the right direction or just knowing what to do consistently."
