After nearly reaching the Super Bowl last season, the Denver Broncos are considered by many to be one of the top contenders to get to the big game this coming season.
That won't come easily. The Broncos will play a first-place schedule this year and last year's fortune of winning so many one-score games is bound to go the other way at some point. While 14 wins may be a tough hill to climb this year, the Broncos are a battle-tested squad that can beat any team in the league in a playoff setting.
But when will their first loss in 2026 come?
John Breech of CBS Sports recently took a look at the schedule and predicted when each team would suffer its first loss of the season. Broncos Country won't like this, but Breech predicts that to happen right out of the gate for Denver. He has the Broncos losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 on Monday Night Football.
"With Patrick Mahomes coming back from a torn ACL, there is a small chance that he won't be back yet for this game, but if he's on the field, it's hard to pick against a Chiefs team that will be opening the season at home in primetime," wrote Breech for CBS.
There is no doubt that the Broncos drew the short straw for Week 1. Despite being the defending division champs, they have to go on the road to one of the toughest environments in the league at Arrowhead Stadium. There seemingly was a chance that the Chiefs wouldn't have Mahomes at quarterback for that game, but Mahomes recently stated that he's "extremely confident" that he'll be ready for that game.
Throw in the fact that the Chiefs will be hungry to prove that last season's 6-11 finish was a fluke, and the Broncos are going to have their hands full.
For those interested, Breech predicts that the Baltimore Ravens will be the league's last unbeaten team, losing to the Buffalo Bills in Week 8 following a 7-0 start.
