Chris Wilder says he is not currently expecting Rhys Norrington-Davies to leave Sheffield United, after the defender impressed in their 2-1 Carabao Cup win over Blackburn.
Norrington-Davies started in a back three and produced a strong display before being withdrawn after 75 minutes, with Wilder revealing he had been concerned about the risk of a muscle injury.
“He wanted to stay on, but for me, we just really opened that up to a potential muscle injury and I don’t think that was fair to push him through,” Wilder said.
“So, sensible decision and he came off and completely delighted with his performance. As far as I’m concerned, he’s not going anywhere at this particular moment.”
Wilder believes Norrington-Davies’ versatility makes him an important part of his plans, particularly with Sheffield United prepared to switch between a back three and four.
“We want to be flexible. We want to sometimes go into a three, which we talked about. We played that formation on Saturday,” he added.
“That was his position when the team had the season where they got into the Premier League. That was his position when I first had him as a young kid.
“He fits that. He’s a solid full-back, but he can play three at the back.
“So, for me, Rhys is with us and we’re delighted to have him with us.”
Wilder also confirmed Harrison Burrows is currently unavailable and will be assessed ahead of Sheffield United’s weekend fixture.
“As far as I’m concerned, Harrison’s not available at the moment so we have to check to see where he is before the weekend,” he said.
