The WNBA is facing backlash over the officials and the inconsistencies we are seeing on the court.
Officiating across the WNBA has faced relentless criticism, with fans and analysts pointing to double standards in how games are called.
The debate often focuses on superstar treatment, or the lack thereof, where physical fouls against players like Caitlin Clark are routinely let go. And this was evident with the Paige Bueckers incident, where she repeatedly tried to purposely foul Clark, but the officials took an age to call anything.
Of course, it’s impossible to get every call correct, but there have even been instances where you’re left rubbing your head over decisions after being reviewed.
WNBA called the new Women’s Wrestling EntertainmentAn article from the publication Victor Hanson posted an article branding the WNBA as the WWE, standing for the ‘Women’s Wrestling Entertainment’.
They reasoned that Caitlin Clark is heading toward a serious injury. Game after game, opposing players seem to have total freedom to push, slap, trip, and physically target her, or use threats of violence to try and back her down.
And it’s safe to say that WNBA fans agreed on X.
This fan agreed: “Yep! And the refs are just as comical as in the WWE.”
Another supporter made a joke out of it: “At this rate, the WNBA’s next sponsorship deal should be with a folding-chair company.”
“If the men fouled like the women do there would be fistfights in every game.” One fan made a valid point.
One fan even suggested it’s planned: “Yep. I’ve called it that too. I truly believe it’s all staged for ratings and entertainment.”
“Sadly true.” Another added.
There is definitely something that needs to be done about the protection of players, as the WNBA would soon see viewership drop if someone like Clark was to be injured for a prolonged period.
