The New York Yankees have had Aaron Boone as their manager for nine seasons. While they've been a good team for most of those seasons, including a World Series appearance in 2024, they've not won a title since his hiring.
For a storied franchise like the Yankees, this current drought without a title since 2009 is a notable stretch without another World Series championship. Boone is trying to fix that this season. But what if the Yankees are bounced in the postseason again?
Karl Rasmussen of Sports Illustrated shared a hot-seat rumor about Boone that revealed the Yankees and Brian Cashman could finally run out of patience and move on from Boone if the 2026 season result isn't good enough.

The Yankees are currently 75-58 in the regular season with a .564 winning percentage. Boone has a .582 winning percentage in his managerial career, all of it spent with the Yankees since 2018.
Since his managerial debut, there's been just one year (besides the 60-game 2020 season) in which the Yankees didn't win at least 90 games, and that was 2022.
They're right on pace to add another 90-win season to Boone's impressive resume, but the issue is that they've not been able to find postseason success. That might be what does Boone in with this Yankees managerial job.
Boone's job status is in question right now. If the Yankees collapse and miss the playoffs, he would probably be the scapegoat and fired.

But if the Yankees make the postseason and get eliminated early, whether it's in the Wild Card or Divisional Round, Boone still might not have a job in 2027.
Firing Boone when he has such a good regular-season track record would be a very bold move from the Yankees, but it's not out of the realm of possibility if the team has another lackluster postseason showing.
But if the Yankees were to win and make it either to the American League Championship Series or the World Series, then Boone's job might be safe.
Boone could also be in a similar situation to what Alex Cora and Rob Thomson were heading into this year, with both managers' futures in question, and both getting fired after lackluster starts.
Rasmussen believes Boone's job status is in question, and the Yankees' postseason success will determine his future with the franchise.
