ARMADA — The Almont High School football team has extended its impressive winning streak in the Blue Water Area Conference (BWAC) to 25 games, a remarkable achievement that spans four seasons. On September 3, 2026, the Raiders (2-0) faced off against the Armada Tigers (1-1) in their league opener at Doc Orv Krause Field, securing a 14-0 victory.
This latest win is particularly significant as it showcases Almont's resilience and ability to perform against one of the toughest teams in the BWAC. Defensive lineman Brock Murphy expressed pride in the team's performance, stating, "It feels amazing knowing that Armada is one of the toughest teams in the BWAC. We’ve just got to keep the same mindset coming into next week and every other BWAC game." This mindset is crucial as the Raiders aim to maintain their dominance in the league.
The game was tightly contested, remaining scoreless until the third quarter. At the 9:19 mark, Almont broke the deadlock with a well-executed play. On a crucial fourth-and-11 situation, quarterback Blake Lane faked a counter to the left, then sprinted right for a spectacular 35-yard touchdown run. Lane credited his teammates for the success of the play, saying, "Brody Corneau had one hell of a block. He’s the lead block there. He kicked Armada’s defense out, I cut up and bounced it back outside. Without Brody there — Ian (Meyers) had a hell of a down block, too — that play would never have happened. Those two blocks made the touchdown."
Following the initial touchdown, Almont added another score late in the fourth quarter, with Colten Karbel rushing for a 4-yard touchdown. This late-game performance underscored the Raiders' ability to capitalize on opportunities and maintain control of the game.
As the season progresses, the Raiders will look to build on this momentum. Their next BWAC matchup will be critical as they aim to further solidify their position at the top of the conference standings. With a perfect start to the season and a strong winning streak, Almont is poised to be a formidable contender in the BWAC.
The Raiders' impressive record not only reflects their skill and determination but also sets a high standard for the competition within the Blue Water Area Conference. As they continue their campaign, Almont will undoubtedly face challenges, but their current form suggests they are ready to meet them head-on.
